GE Energy Gear Plant

GE needed to wire a 4000hp motor in order to test gear boxes to be installed in military warships and submarines. The motor was a critical part of establishing a testing facility to ensure quality performance and adherence to demanding performance specifications required by the U.S. military.

GE Energy consulted with Hammond Electric to be part of the project team from an installer perspective for layout, design and installation of a 15kv feeder and switch gear. Hammond Electric was chosen for this work because of its safety record and experience with heavy industrial installations. The project consisted of working with a 15kv feeder, plus installation and wiring of a 5kv variable frequency drive (VFD) and a 4000hp motor with all associated data control systems.
